Live show encourages youth to continue math studies

Learning through fun and play is the niche of the Science and Mathematics in Action organization (SMAC) of Université Laval.

With a mission to awaken and strengthen the interest in mathematics and science among youth, SMAC demystifies these fields for audiences through performances of Show Math, a live multimedia show that combines humour, animation and math to teach new concepts to students. Activities also include interactive and educational resources, such as the free online game MathAmaze, that make mathematical and scientific concepts fun to learn and easy for students to understand.

SMAC reaches thousands of young French and English speaking students of all grade levels across Canada. Team members take Show Math on the road, travelling throughout Quebec, Ontario, New Brunswick and even occasionally to Vancouver to help motivate young students to find new excitement in math and science.

NSERC’s PromoScience funding has supported to add and improve features in MathAmaze and enhances its interactive performance. SMAC’s programs now reach approximately 26,000 participants each year.
