Ms. Tracey Scarlett (BSc University of Alberta; MBA University of Alberta) is the Dean of the JR Shaw School of Business at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT). NAIT is a leading Canadian polytechnic, delivering education in science, technology and the environment; business; health and trades to nearly 60,000 credit and non-credit students. Known for hands-on, technology-based learning, NAIT engages with business and industry in applied research and innovation.
Ms. Scarlett has a wide and varied background in health, entrepreneurship and technology commercialization. She was COO of KMT Hepatech Inc., co-founder of an electrical contracting company, President of BioQuest Ventures Inc., a business development company specializing in the high-growth and innovation sector, and most recently was CEO of Alberta Women Entrepreneurs.
In 2012, she was recognized by NAIT as one of the Top 50 Alumni, and in 2013, she was recognized as a Woman of Distinction by YWCA Edmonton.
Ms. Scarlett is on the Telus Community Foundation Board in Calgary, the Alberta Advisory Board for the Women’s Executive Network, and the panel of judges for the national RBC Women Entrepreneur of the Year awards. She is also a mentor and judge for the TEC Edmonton Venture Prize awards. She is a past Director and Finance Committee Chair on the Board of Edmonton Economic Development Corp., and a past Director of several other organizations including Alberta Women Entrepreneurs, Suit Yourself, the Canadian Association of Management Consultants in Alberta, the Organization of Women in International Trade (OWIT Alberta), and Junior Achievement of Northern Alberta.
Ms. Scarlett volunteers with many groups and regularly speaks about entrepreneurship and supporting women to expand their leadership roles. Extensive non-traditional career experience has led her to be passionate about encouraging women to pursue careers in science and to become business leaders and entrepreneurs.
Ms. Scarlett is a member of NSERC’s Executive Committee and its Committee for Research Partnerships (CRP).
