Christine Allen

Dr. Christine Allen (Ph.D. Chemistry, McGill University; B.Sc. Biochemistry, University of Ottawa) was appointed in 2019 as the first Associate Vice-President and Vice-Provost, Strategic Initiatives, at the University of Toronto. She is also a Professor in the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Toronto. Previously, Dr. Allen served as Interim Dean; Associate Dean, Academic; and Associate Dean, Graduate Education, for that Faculty. She is co-founder and former President of Nanovista Inc., a J&J Innovations Jlabs Company.

Dr. Allen’s research is focused on the rational design and development of new materials and technologies for the delivery of drugs and contrast agents. Over the years she has dedicated her time to the supervision and mentorship of over 80 research trainees (undergraduate and graduate students as well as post-doctoral fellows). She has over 130 peer-reviewed publications, numerous patent applications, and nine book chapters on both lipid and polymer-based delivery systems.

Dr. Allen’s research program is currently funded by NSERC and Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) as well as a number of industrial partners. She has served on several peer review panels for granting agencies including the CIHR, the National Cancer Institute of Canada and the National Institutes of Health (USA). She is currently the President-Elect of the Canadian Society for Pharmaceutical Sciences (CSPS), an Associate Editor of the Journal of Controlled Release, and a member of various editorial advisory boards. She has received career awards from CSPS, CIHR/Rx&D and the Association of Faculties of Pharmacy of Canada, and is a fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences.
