Revisions to the Tri-Agency Research Training Award Holder’s Guide

Program news Students

January 25, 2018

The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC), and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) are pleased to announce significant revisions to the Tri-Agency Research Training Award Holder’s Guide. These changes come in response to feedback the agencies received from both Scholarships Liaison Officers and award holders.

The granting agencies released the Guide in September 2016 in an effort to harmonize post-award policies and procedures for recipients of agency research training awards. It applies to most graduate, postgraduate, and postdoctoral awards from any of the three granting agencies. Changes are effective January 25, 2018 and cover the following areas:

  • procedures for requesting award instalments;
  • procedures for providing proof of citizenship or permanent residency;
  • provisions for award interruptions;
  • reporting requirements (SSHRC only);
  • amendments to certain forms.

A full list of changes to policies and procedures are listed in a table at the top of the guide.
