The Fund will invest $275 million over the next five years, and $65 million ongoing, to support opportunities for early career researchers to conduct high-risk, high-reward, international and interdisciplinary research not available through funding opportunities currently offered by the three agencies.

NSERC has launched an evaluation of its discovery research programs, a process that the agency undertakes every five years. The evaluation covers a broad suite of grants, supplements and institutes, and will look at how effective these mechanisms are in addressing the needs of researchers.

NSERC congratulates Dr. Donna Strickland of the University of Waterloo on being named a winner of the Nobel Prize in Physics. Dr. Strickland is the first Canadian woman to win the Nobel Prize in Physics, and only the third woman ever to have won the prize.
